What is PTSA?

PTSA is a non-profit organization of parents, teachers, students, and other caring adults who work together to make school a better experience for every child. PTSA is part of a nationwide network of school communities. The idea is simple: when families, teachers, and students work together, they can make a bigger difference than they can on their own. It is a way for families to connect with the school, support student learning and well-being, and help shape the school community.

 

At Mark Twain, our PTSA helps connect families and staff, supports school programs and activities, and provides opportunities for parents to share ideas, contribute their skills, and advocate for our children.

 

Why does PTSA matter?

School is more than what happens inside the classroom. A strong school community helps children feel connected, supported, and excited to learn.

 

PTSA brings families and educators together to:

  • Support enriching experiences for students.
  • Build a welcoming and inclusive school community.
  • Help families connect with one another and with the school.
  • Support teachers and staff where PTSA can make a difference.
  • Give families a way to share ideas and advocate for students.

Whether you have been part of a PTSA before or this is your first introduction, your perspective and participation are valuable.

 

Why are there membership fees?

PTSA is a nonprofit organization, and membership fees help support the work of PTSA at the local, state, and national levels.

Membership fees are not a payment for a particular event but they help maintain the organization and make it possible for PTSA to serve our school throughout the year.

 

What are membership fees used for?

Your membership helps PTSA operate and support our school community. Local PTSA funds may be used for things such as:

  • Student enrichment programs and educational experiences.
  • Community-building activities and school events.
  • Support for teachers and classrooms.
  • Family engagement and school community initiatives.
  • Resources and services that help PTSA volunteers do their work.

The specific programs and spending decisions depend on our annual budget and the needs of Mark Twain students and families. We aim to use PTSA funds responsibly and transparently.

 

Why should your family join?

Joining PTSA is a simple way to show that you care about your child’s school and want to be part of the community.

 

As a member, you can:

  • Connect with other families. Meet people from different backgrounds and build friendships within our school community.
  • Support your child’s school. Help make enriching programs, activities, and community events possible.

You can join whether you have a lot of time to give, a little time to give, or simply want to support the school through membership.

 

What is expected after I join?

Membership does not require you to volunteer at every event or attend every meeting. There is no minimum number of volunteer hours for regular PTSA members.

 

We do encourage members to stay informed, support the PTSA community, and participate in ways that work for their family. You might attend a meeting, share an idea, help at an event, or simply renew your membership each year.

How do I join?

Joining Mark Twain PTSA is easy!

  1. Go to our PTSA Membership page.
  2. Select the membership option that works for you.
  3. Complete the membership form and pay the annual membership fee.

Membership is open to parents, guardians, teachers, staff, students, grandparents, and other community members who support our children and school.
