Math challenge program is back for 2025-26!

Thank you to Suvvi Gudugunta for being our new lead this year!

What is Math Challenge Program?

Math Challenge program is a free school-wide math enrichment program for elementary students (from Math-in-Action) consisting of series of challenging and interesting math problems. No registration is required and you can jump in anytime!

It is an exciting and enriching mathematical journey designed to ignite the problem-solving skills of elementary students. The program provides 15 sets of challenges throughout the school year; each set is published every other week starting in late September and ending in May. Please refer to the calendar below for release and due dates of the challenges.

These math challenges cover problem solving strategies such as draw a picture or model, make an organized list, look for a pattern, working backward, and guess and check. Each challenge presents 12 to 18 problems ordered by level of difficulty, which enables students from various grade-levels to participate. They are designed to give students opportunities to sharpen their mathematical problem-solving skills. Problems are suitable for grade 1 through 6 and students in kindergarten are welcome to try.

How to participate:

1. Download/Open the pdf of the Current Math Challenge

2. Solve as many problems as you can (please pay attention to the minimum number of problems to solve successfully for your grade). We encourage you to discuss strategies and solutions with your parents and siblings and attempt as many questions as possible

3. Parents can help email completed sets to mathchallenge@twainptsa.org. Please do not forget to include your student name, grade, class teacher. Submit your solutions by 2pm on the due date.
